I have heard about ARI Ben. I met someone from there that was in my CFI class at ATP in JAX and they claimed to have had a good experience with them. Of course they were doing their CFI training with ATP though, I don't believe that Ari Ben has a CFI program. All of the 'time building' is split with another pilot, so half of the time you are logging as a 'safety pilot' meaning you are not doing the flying, but you are logging pilot in command time. It's kind of a loop in the system, but it works. Keep investigating, and make sure they have good maintenance (you would understand this) and good customer service. Looks like now is the time to take this involuntary layoff and go with it. The timing could be right to make the career change. Let me know what other advice/info I can lend. Good luck sir!

Hey Mitch,
I've been busy with x-countries the last 12 days. I've been sent from Arlington both east and west. For you and others reading here is my schedule so far. 5-27 GKY-MEI-DAB 5-28 DAB-CRG-PNS-BTR-GKY 5-30 GKY-MLU-DWH-GKY 5-31 GKY-ROW-GKY 6-01 GKY-MEI-PFN 6-02 PFN-DAB-CRG-DAB 6-03 DAB-FTY-BWG-MLU 6-04 MLU-DWH-GKY 6-05 GKY-SJT-DWH 6-06 DWH-SJT-ELP-IWA 6-07 IWA-ELP-GKY I understand that tomorrow I have one last out and back and I'll have completed the cross country phase. Boy will I be glad. It's been alot of fun but it sure wears your body down. A few days of rest will be well apprecdiated. Till next time... Doug |

Those are some impressive city pairs, Doug. Sounds like fun but I certainly understand your fatigue. Long days in a loud, warm cockpit can wear you down. Thinking about that makes me appreciate my ERJ cockpit a bit more, with the AC blasting, lumbar support, sunshades, etc. The other day I had a similar type of 'cross-country'. ELP-IAH-STL-EWR. Trust me I was tired after that one too.
Thanks for the update. I hope you have enjoyed the crew aspects of the XC flying... two pilots together maximize safety, utility, and efficiency as compared to single pilot operations. Cheers to your next phase of training!

AC what is that? LOL
What I wouldn't give for AC in the seminole. With all seriousness though...I really did enjoy my cross country flights. I feel lucky to have drawn the city assignments we got. Quote:

heya mitch!
I am new to this whole ATP idea but it seems like a great program that i want to be a part of. I am especially interested in their 90 day fast track program, but i am having some problems finding some solid info on it. If you could shed some light on some of the prerequisits for this program such as any college time required or if a private pilot certificate is required. Thanks for any help and advice. |

As far as the 90 day program, I did not take part in it, I did my instructor training with ATP. There are plenty of people on here that have done, or are currently doing the 90 day program, so I can research any specific questions you may have. In terms of prerequisites for the 90 day ACPP: check here- http://www.atpflightschool.com/airli...equisites.html What other questions can I help you with? Do you have any flight time/ratings yet?

i have about about 23 hours dual training and have not yet gone on a solo because i was having some trouble finding a nearby place to get my third class medical. I got that all worked out though and will be getting it in a week to start soloing and cross country flights. I still need to complete one more year of college to be applicable for the ATP program so in that time i will get my Private certificate and the required 85 hours of flight time and 25 cross country. I should be done by next summer and so i should be applicable to sign up. One last question. can i skip the third and second class medical and go straight for the first class or do i have to complete them in order? |

Go for the first class medical right off. At most AMEs (Aviation Medical Examiners) its the same price anyways. I have always got a first class to make sure that I wouldn't have any trouble down the road.
Maybe this will help you find an AME? http://www.faa.gov/pilots/amelocator/
