all I can say is, its been a while. Hi Bob. My name is Derek. and I am trying very hard to make a career change. I am currently a computer professional with Newell-Rubbermaid. I just got, and passed my first class medical, which I have to tell you that I was not sure I was going to be able to do. It was kind of like a breath of fresh air. I am 38 now, so I definitely need to take care of myself so I can keep at it. The last time I flew was in 94. It is the great regret of my life that I did not continue in my training. Some how I got side tracked in to computers, but aviation has always been my passion. so here comes the return. I am currently working out my finances and I hope to have these squared away very soon. I just wanted to say hi and hopefully begin a dialogue.
Thanks Derek currently in Illinois but hope to be in Texas soon |

Hi there Derek!
Welcome to the forums... even though you signed up back in June! ![]() That's OK... the important thing is that you finally posted... which I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to do. Congrats on the first class medical. It sounds like that was a big hurdle for you. I'm very glad it's done and out of the way for now. I'm 38 as well... and I'm right there with you in the "need to take care of myself" department. I keep thinking that "next month" I'll get myself on an exercise regimen... it's funny... because "next month" never comes. For example, when September 1st came... it was now "this month". ![]() That feeling of regret that you are feeling is exactly what I and many others didn't or don't want to feel. We can completely understand where you are coming from. I didn't want to be bouncing my grandkids on my knee one day and saying to them... "Ya know... Gran'pa always wanted to be a pilot." Only to have them look at me with those beautiful innocent eyes and respond with "Well, then why didn't you?" I'm here to tell you, it's a really cool thing having a job doing the very thing that you are passionate about. This industry has it's ups and downs... but there's nothing I'd rather be doing. Consider the dialogue open Derek... ![]() Welcome again! Bob
