Hi Bob,
I'm looking at other different ways to get funding for my school, other than a personal loan via Sallie Mae and using my VA benefits. I'm looking at trying to get financial aid, is ATP set up with the Federal Student Aid program? I noticed on their list that their is a few flight academys that are and didn't see ATP. V/R, Gil |

Hi Gilbert,
It's good that you are trying to think outside the box when it comes to financing. At this time ATP is not set up for federal student aid and your VA bennies can't be used. ATP trains primarily under Part 61 rules and you need to have a training curriculum under Part 141. The knowledge base is the same for each type of program, but the way the knowledge is dissemenated and the time frame required for each program is completely different. Most University Flight Training Programs are Part 141, and thus you are eligible for Federal aid (including GI Bennies). However, those programs can take 2-4 years to complete. A Part 61 program is more self paced and can take @ 90 days, thus getting your out into the job market quicker... but no federal aid is available. That said... ATP is working toward Part 141 certification. It may be a while before it comes to fruition, and I'd have to refer you to ATP admissions for more info. If/when they do get a 141 approved curriculum, it certainly won't be a 90 day immersion program. There's too much paperwork, red tape, and different testing criteria for that too happen. Hope that answer helped somewhat... Bob
