Default Family

Hey Bob,

What kind of "flying" benefits do family members get to take advantage of? Do some get to fly at a discount or free even? Just wondering.....

Thanks for your time,

Mike

Hi there Michael,

First of all... welcome to the forums! I'm glad you found your way here... and I'm happy to help you out any way I can.

If you could... I'd like to ask if you would take a moment and introduce yourself. The more I know about you... the better I could tailor my responses to your individual needs.

As to your question above...

It depends on what each airlines rules are... but they are all very similar. For example... at ExpressJet, you're immediately family get's flight benefits. You're immediate family consists of you, your spouse, your parents (not your spouses), and your children under the age of 18.

Typically you will pay a small fee that basically covers taxes... for us it's @ $15 per person, one way. I know for another major airline that we flew for you only paid a one time fee of @ $50/year and then travel was free for your family for that year.

So... as you can see, either way, it's travel at a very reduced price. However... bear in mind that it is "stand-by" travel. Which means, that your family will only be able to get on the aircraft as long as there is an open seat available.

That kind of flying can be stressful for those who aren't used to it.

You of course will still have the option to jumpseat... there is no charge for that.

Bob

Thanks Bob,

The reason I ask, I have a 13 year old son that lives with his mom. So I was seeing how I could get him to me. I know I keep going on on this subject, but My Uncle is considering Co-signing for me to goto ATP. I was wondering if there is a way to have extended family get a discount. He is moving to Columbia this spring and would like to come back to the states a couple of times a year. I am trying to use that angle (a Discount) is possible to convince him to co-sign

Actually Michael... Yes, there is a way to get your uncle to have the benefits.

If you are not currently married... then the airlines typically will offer you the opportunity to choose a "travel" companion who in turn will get the same travel bennies that would otherwise go to your spouse.

A travel companion could be:

- A Girlfriend
- A Boyfriend
- A Best friend
- A Sister
- A Brother
- An extended family member
- etc.

Think of it this way... In addition to your children and parents... you get one travel companion that will either be your spouse... or someone else of your choosing.

Also, even if your child or children don't live with you... they are still able to be covered under the travel bennies.

Hope that helps!

Bob
