Hey everyone my name is Lance and I am scheduled to start 8/3. I have my medical coming up in a week and I spoke with a pilot for United who suggested that i get other tests above the standard medical. He suggested this because someone he knew went through all his training but in his pre-employment medical they found that he was diabetic so he wouldn't be able to fly for them. So this pilot suggested that I get blood work done to make sure I'm not diabetic and he also suggested a stress EKG.(not sure what that is) My question is are there any other tests that I should look into? I just want to make sure I don't have any underlaying medical problems that will arise down the road and stop me from flying.

Hi there Lance,
I've moved your post into your assigned coach's forum. I'm pretty certain Dan will be able to answer your question for you since he's flown for both an airline and a corporate aviation department. Dan will be along shortly... in the meantime, please take a moment and introduce yourself when you get a chance. Welcome to the forums! ![]() Bob

Hello Lance. That is not a bad idea to get those extra tests done if you are worried about having problems. An EKG is just a way of seeing and measuring how someones heart will respond to certain tests. I think this can detect some types of heart problems and blockages. Anyway, let me know if you have any other questions. Like Bob mentioned above, I am currently flying for a corporate flight department but have flown for a regional airline before working at Hertz.
Talk to you soon, Dan |
