Hey Mitch,
My name is Dustin and I'm from Greenville, SC. Like most people on here, I've loved everything to do with aviation since I was young. I'm 25 now and recently married. I've been working in the commercial roofing industry since I graduated from college. Now that I'm a few years into the "real world", I know that I want to have a career in something that I love doing. This is hopefully where ATP comes in. I've been doing lots of research recently on flight training and flying for a living. Everything I've seen and read looks exactly like what I want to do with my life. This forum looks like a great place to ask questions and talk to pilots in the industry. I'll have a few questions for you in the future, but for now I just wanted to introduce myself and let you know I am looking forward to learning about anything you care to pass on about what you've learned being in the aviation industry. Thanks Mitch! Dustin |

Mitch,
In your opinion is it best to attend ATP having some of the training completed, i.e. the private pilot's license, or is it better to do all flight training at once at ATP? There is a local FOB where I can knock out the private pilot's license before attending ATP. I know ATP requires 85 hours to advance in their program, but the private pilot just gives 40 hours. Would you recommend getting all of the 85 hours locally if I did decide to go ahead and get the private license before ATP? Cost wise, it's going to run me about the same whether I decide to take the course locally or do it at ATP. Thanks for any help you can provide! Dustin |

-Get your private locally and then rent for the remaining 45 hours to log 85 and then start the Airline Career Pilot Program (ACPP). -Get your private locally and then do a time building program at ATP in one of their Cessnas with a CFI in order to reach 85 hours. I am pretty sure they still offer this program. -Start fresh at 0 hours at ATP and do their private program followed by the ACPP. This may be the fastest route because of their aggressive scheduling. However, you would have to be at one of their locations for a longer period of time.... however ATP has housing options. Which option sounds best to you is up to you. Differences in location, finance, and scheduling are the biggest differentiators.
