I am so sorry! I must have logged in and missed your post again I am sorry..... Im glad that you got your tour done... As for the degree here the best advise I can give you. As with any industry there is some unknown, and you need to be prepared for what ever comes your way. The majors do like to see a 4 year degree some require it and some do not, but getting a 4 year will always have its benifits. If for some reason you stop flying such as furlough you will always have a back up. That is key. The AA stuff I really dont know about, but there are a lot of layoffs going on around the industry due to the high fuel costs and such.

Hope all is well and that helps you out, and again I am sorry for missing your post before

Dan

Default Lots of Down Time????????

Hey Dan.....it's ok about the long reply time.....I'm just glad your ok. I hoped your plane didn't crash or something. :-)

My question now is this...

Does one have alot of down time once they are flying? The way I see it is that if I just go to flight school after my AA degree then I will have a better seniority number.....also, I could finish flight school and work on the few credentials I have left online in all the down time I would have as a CFI, and or FO reserve pilot.

Hoping you get back sooner.....

Yes you will have down time everyday. You would have no trouble at all finishing your degree online.

Default Flight School in January

Well good thing to know about the down time. I am set on it now. After 5 months of research and planing I now believe that becoming an airline pilot through ATP would be the best way to go.

I hope to start flight school in January 2009 after I graduate from the fall semester at my local college.

What steps do I take now?

Do I contact the Phoenix branch and start looking into the loan process this early or what?

Hoping you can fill in the details,

David R.

Awesome! Glad to hear it!

That would be your best bet... Do as much research on the loans as you can so you can make sure you get the best rate. Also start working on your writtens get them all knocked out. One less thing to worry about later.

Keep me posted

Dan

[font="Comic Sans MS"]Well I have a book called Jeppesin Private Pilot, but am not in any flight school classes...what coarse of action should I take in getting the written exams done?

Go to a local airport? Online? If online then what web site.

About how much does it take to do these tests? I'm a little low on the funds right now so hopefully they aren't like 500.00 or something! :-)

Always looking for more info!

The tests only cost around 80-100, but keep the reciepts because atp will reinburse you for all of the tests you take. They are included!

There are some books called GLIME they have all the study guides for the test, also sportys online does have some as well. I believe it is SPORTYS.COM.

hope all is well

Well Hello Dan!

I hope the skies are treating you well. Everyday I keep seeing airplanes fly overhead and just wish it was me. I am currently working at a Boys and Girls Club in my town and apparently we are on a popular route for pilots because they fly over our heads constantly when we are out playing in our nearby park! It is motivation to stick to my guns and deal with the little twerps everyday. ( they are middle schoolers... need I say more) I keep saying in the back of my mind.... January-January-January---- :-)

Well thanks for those written test web sites. I looked both of them over and saw some of the books the company's sell.

So am I to understand that I am to buy these books, study for a test and then pay to take the test at some location? Forgive me for asking but... Isn't that what I'll be learning at flight school?

And I saw other books for sale besides the Private Pilot Course. Should I buy the whole sequence of books needed for the multi engine and instrumental ratings as well as anything else I will need to take a test on before arriving at ATP?

Once I've studied for these tests where do I take them? Any local airport? And does ATP reimburse you for the books or just the test?

Ok Ok last question for you today! :-) Don't you LOVE my LONG E-mails!??!?

A kid was telling me that because of 9/11/01 pilots are not allowed to leave the cock pit while in flight...I thought about it and to my knowledge I have not seen a pilot leave the cabin since 9/11/01, which lead him to ask his next question and now mine for you.... "If you are on a 4 hour flight and need to use the "HEAD" (military lingo) what do you do, cuz I know you don't have one up in the C-pit."

Just a random Q for ya! :-)

Hope all is well with you,,,,, and I truly do appreciate all the input you have been providing me. It is invaluable. I tell all sorts of people about our little chats! And bits of info I now know thanks to you!

Until next time Dan,

God Bless---

Hey man hows it been?

The tests can be taken at any Local airport just call some of the fbos and see if they provide the tests. The cost of the tests are the only part you will get back. The books your are actually givin from atp so I would not buy them. You could check the library see if they have the books.

As for the important question, haha J/K.... we are allowed to leave the Cockpit only to go to the "Head", and thats it.

Hope all is well!

Dan
