Hello Sameer,

No, 36 is not too old to begin training toward being an airline pilot. Of course, usually the older you get, the harder it is to commit to career/lifestyle change not just for you, but for your family if you have one.

Tell me a little bit more about yourself so I can get a better idea of what may work for you.

While ATP's Airline Career Pilot Programs require a significant time/money commitment, they are the fastest most effective way for you to get to the airlines. It's all going to depend on how serious you are about it, of course.

Take a look at ATP's website if you haven't already. If you have questions about the specific programs, let me know or call the guys at 800-ALL-ATPS. They're pretty knowledgeable. Hope this helps!

Sameer,

Your new found freedom is definitely a plus as far as commiting to a training program goes. All of ATP's fast track programs require that you be available seven days a week. That's often times tough for those with families.

Financing is definitely available for those who need it, but getting approved these days has proven to be a bit of a trick. Given the current economic state, a lot of potential students have found it hard if not impossible to secure financing since banks are far less willing to give out loans these days. A good credit score is a must, I'm afraid, so if you have credit card or any other debt as a result of your divorce, it may make things difficult.

I think the best thing for you to do at this point is talk to someone about financing. There's no sense in making all these arrangements if you can't get the money to do it! Give the guys at 800-ALL-ATPS a call and tell them you'd like to talk to someone about financing. They'll be able to give you a better idea of what kind of loans are available and whether or not you would qualify. They can also hook you up directly with these banks if you have more questions.

Financing has become the greatest hurdle for those interested in flying these days. Unfortunately with the economy in recession, it's tought to get money! Don't write it off yet, though! There may be other options out there!
