Hey Cade!
If you get a minute, tell me a little bit about yourself so I can get a better idea what may work for you if you ever become interested in becoming a professional pilot. Where do you live, how are old are you, family, education, etc. The difference between a private and a commercial pilot is pretty substantial but it's really as simple as one you do for pleasure, the other as a job! If you want to fly but don't want to make it a career, a Private Pilot certificate is for you. It allows you to fly, just not for compensation or hire. To work for the airlines, fly corporate, or fly a plane for compensation or hire, you have to have a Commercial Pilot certificate. To be the pilot-in-command (PIC) or "captain" of a CFR Part 121 flight (airline) you have to hold an Airline Transport Pilot certificate. Both of the latter require more experience and training, of course. ATP offers both a Private Pilot Program for those who are just interested in flying for pleasure, and several Airline Career Pilot Programs for those interested in going to primarily the airlines. Take a look at the ATP website (www.atpflightschool.com). It will give you an idea of what you get and what's required for each program. Hope this helps! >Matt |
