Hey Matt,
I know at most local flight school's they "say" you are covered under their insurance, but it is still a good idea to get your own. Are you covered through ATP or do you also need your own insurance to attend? |

Hey Matt,
No problem, take your time. So all this talk about insurance was either a sign or something. Last week I went flying with my buddy out of PAFA (Fairbanks, AK) and we were headed to PFYU (Fort Yukon, AK). The airport elevation at PAFA is 434' and during my run up and mag check everything went great. As I applied full power for take off in the C-172 everything was perfect. As I got to around 700' the engine started to sputter erratically. (I have had the engine on this same aircraft happen to me before when I was doing stalls, but with my instructor and they weren't bad, probably some water going through the fuel injectors). This sputter was pretty significant and happened twice. The first one lasted about two seconds then the next one about 5 seconds later lasted about 5-6 seconds, I was sure the engine was going to fail just by the sounds. Fortunetly it didn't, but I called up tower and immediately asked to land and was approved. After I landed I went and talked to maintenance, and they said it was probably water going through the system. Maintenance did a full phase check up and traces of water showed up, but when I sumped the tanks all looked good. Anyways this incident was by far the most significant I have had in my short time as a pvt. pilot. Thought I would share that with you and if you have any insight or stories similiar to this, please share. Thanks! Bobby Pico. |
